Set the rate, frequency and starting date
Enter the starting financed balance, nominal annual rate, number of payments and payment frequency. Monthly, twice-monthly, biweekly and weekly models use 12, 24, 26 and 52 equal periods per year respectively. A chosen first due date is a planning label; it does not change the equal-period interest calculation. Use the calendar planner to inspect date conventions.
Inspect each payment row
Each row shows opening balance, period interest, payment, principal repaid and closing balance. Interest = opening balance × nominal annual rate / periods per year. Principal repaid = payment − interest. A row that would fail to reduce the balance requires review, not a hidden balloon added to make the table look successful.
Review the final adjustment
Money is rounded to cents for the row-by-row schedule. The final payment is adjusted to the remaining balance plus modeled interest, so it can differ slightly from the regular payment. At 0%, no payment contains interest. Different daily-accrual and rounding conventions can produce a different lender schedule.
Export the schedule with assumptions
Download the displayed rows together with the amount, rate, frequency, term and calculation date. The export is generated locally; it is not sent to a provider. Keep the assumptions with the numbers, especially if you compare a printed schedule against a later revised quote.
Use the result to narrow real options
Compare total repayment as well as the installment. To see whether the payment fits your household, use the affordability calculator. A longer schedule is not automatically a better loan, and no modeled date is a promise that the lender offers that term.
Boundary Cases for Repayment Schedule Calculator With a Downloadable Breakdown
Normal: At 0%, a $1,200 balance over 12 monthly payments falls by $100 each time. Edge: A balance that does not divide evenly produces a final cent adjustment instead of a negative residual. Incomplete: If frequency is unspecified, a monthly assumption is not silently applied. Error: Zero or fractional payment counts are invalid.
