Consumer Protection: Verify the Provider and Know the Complaint Route

Verify who is asking for your information before you rely on a logo, a directory profile or a fast-funding claim. A legitimate-looking page is not the same as a verified product and recipient.

Identify the company asking for information

Read the legal company name, the role of the website and the issuer named on the proposed agreement. If those names differ, identify why. A comparison service may refer a request without being the lender; a servicing company may collect payments without being the original issuer.

Check the applicable official record

For a Texas nonbank-lending claim, use the relevant OCCC resources and exact entity identifiers. Other products may have a different regulator or a bank issuer. An old BBB page, an past seal or the past Holiday Finance master file does not authorize a new operator. Texas OCCC enforcement actions Texas OCCC L25-033 final order

Recognize advance-fee and data-sharing warnings

Treat demands for a payment to guarantee approval, a bank password sent through an ordinary message, or a recipient that changes without explanation as reasons to stop and investigate. A disclosed application charge on a real product is not the same thing as buying guaranteed approval; identify the service, agreement and official payment channel before paying anything.

Find the right complaint channel

Use the provider’s verified complaint process first where appropriate, and preserve dates, reference numbers and copies of relevant disclosures. Complaints and resolution helps identify the responsible party. Credit-report errors use a separate dispute process; correcting a report is not the same as asking this website to reverse a lending decision. CFPB: Dispute a credit report error

What to Know Before You Continue

Normal: The legal issuer, official domain and applicable product record align. Edge: A person uses the old Holiday Finance name but cannot identify the issuer or a current agreement. Pause before transferring money. Incomplete: A registry search is ambiguous; seek an exact entity match rather than treating a similar name as verification.
