Loan Amount Calculator From a Payment You Can Sustain

Work backward from a payment you can sustain. The amount shown is the mathematical balance supported by your chosen rate and term—not the amount a lender has approved.

Calculate a Budget-Based Loan Amount

Start with a defensible payment budget

Start with the payment remaining after your essential spending, current obligations and reserve. If that figure is zero or negative, the next step is to revise the budget or expense, not to select an optimistic interest rate. Check payment capacity first.

Choose rate and term assumptions

For payment A, periodic rate r and n periods, balance = A × [1 − (1 + r)^−n] / r. At zero rate it is A × n. The monthly baseline uses nominal annual interest divided by twelve. A longer term increases the balance supported by the same payment while also extending the commitment.

See how fees reduce usable cash

A withheld fee reduces usable cash below the supported balance. The tool displays the fee amount and net funds separately. A financed fee must fit inside the supported repayment balance; do not add it afterward and keep claiming the same payment. A separate upfront charge needs cash outside the payment budget.

Read the estimate correctly

The result assumes fixed equal payments, the rate entered and no additional charges beyond those entered. It does not establish state availability, accepted income, a credit limit or an offer. Rounding and the actual agreement can change the final figures.

Use the result to narrow real options

Use the estimated net amount to test whether it covers the expense. If it is too small, revisit the expense or verified alternatives. Do not automatically increase the payment beyond your budget. When you receive a real quote, verify its cash proceeds and payment in the loan calculator.

Boundary Cases for Loan Amount Calculator From a Payment You Can Sustain

Normal: $100 per month at 0% for 12 months supports a $1,200 balance. Edge: A 5% withheld fee reduces usable cash to $1,140, so a $1,200 bill is not fully covered. Incomplete: A rate or payment budget is missing; no maximum is displayed. Error: The tool rejects a negative payment or a fee that consumes the available balance.
