Early Payoff Calculator With Allocation Assumptions

See how regular extra principal payments could shorten a fixed-rate loan. The estimate assumes the extra money reduces principal immediately; verify that treatment with your lender before relying on the savings.

Model My Early Payoff

Confirm how extra money is applied

Check whether extra payments reduce principal or merely advance a due date, and whether fees or precomputed-interest rules change the outcome. This model uses a reducing-balance loan with monthly interest and no prepayment charge. It cannot determine the actual allocation policy from a payment receipt alone.

Set the extra amount and timing

Enter the balance, nominal annual rate, remaining modeled term and extra amount paid with each regular payment. The baseline and accelerated scenarios use the same opening balance and rate. A one-time future extra payment or irregular dates require a different cash-flow model.

Compare duration and interest

The result reports modeled months to payoff, interest paid, total repayment and the difference from baseline. Interest is calculated on the declining balance; payments are capped at the amount still due. With all else unchanged, zero extra payment reproduces the baseline and positive extra principal cannot increase modeled interest.

Request the lender’s payoff quote

Before closing the loan, request a dated payoff quote from the servicer. Outstanding principal alone may not be the amount required on the intended payoff date. Pending payments, accrued charges and the quote’s validity period can matter. The calculator is not an instruction to send its final balance as settlement.

Use the result to narrow real options

Use the estimate to decide whether an extra payment fits after essentials and a reserve. Keeping emergency cash may be more important than accelerating a loan. Compare the household budget before committing every spare dollar, and retain the lender’s confirmation when the loan is actually paid off.

Boundary Cases for Early Payoff Calculator With Allocation Assumptions

Normal: A positive extra payment under this model lowers the balance sooner and may reduce the number of payments. Edge: At 0% it can shorten repayment but cannot produce interest savings because baseline interest is already zero. Incomplete: The lender’s allocation method is unknown; the mathematical result remains conditional. Error: Negative extra payments are rejected.
