Compare before you apply
Do not compare offers by the monthly payment alone. Read these four figures together so a longer term or added charge does not hide the full cost.
The principal or credit amount used to calculate the payment. Confirm how it compares with the cash you actually receive.
APR helps compare annualized cost. The finance charge shows the dollar cost disclosed for the agreement.
Check every due date, the number of payments and whether the amount can change.
Add the scheduled payments and compare the result with the amount financed before accepting the terms.
Payment comparison
Enter the amount, APR and number of months from an offer. The result uses equal monthly payments so you can compare the payment, estimated finance cost and total side by side.
Texas consumer-loan rules
Contract check
Match the legal name and location on the agreement against the current OCCC license search. OCCC recommends searching by city and partial street address.
McAllen rule
McAllen planning materials classify payday-loan businesses for land-use purposes. Loan pricing and contract terms depend on the Texas statute, license and calculation method that govern the actual product—not the land-use label.

Do not rely on approval alone. Compare the payment with essential monthly expenses, ask questions before signing and contact the provider before a missed due date if your situation changes.
